Ruby Corby O’Neill Praises Nomination of Judge Brett Kavanaugh for SCOTUS

July 09, 2018

Ruby Corby O’Neill, Republican candidate for Congress in Connecticut’s 5th Congressional District, released the following statement regarding the nomination of Brett Kavanaugh for Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS):

“I am very pleased with President Trump's choice for Supreme Court Justice. Judge Brett Kavanaugh possesses impeccable credentials, great intellect and unbiased judgment.

The faithful application of the Constitution is the first principle of our freedom, the foundation of our society, and the backbone of our government.  I am confident that Judge Kavanaugh will interpret the law, not make the law. I urge members of the Senate to quickly confirm Judge Brett Kavanaugh."

Straw Poll Victory

June 29, 2018

Ruby Corby O’Neill of Southbury won a straw poll Thursday evening in a Republican 5th Congressional District forum.

Former Meriden Mayor Manny Santos, the party’s endorsed candidate, Rich DuPont of Watertown and O’Neill answered questions and made their pitches to 30 Kent voters on why they should choose them in the Aug. 14 primary.

---

The evening culminated with the straw poll. O’Neill got 15 votes, DuPont 12 and Santos 3.

Much of the discussion focused on the issues of immigration, jobs and health care.

Kent resident Joe Agli asked the candidates if they support or distance themselves from President Donald Trump’s agenda. All three said they support the president and praised him for what he has accomplished so far in office.

---

Agli also asked about their views on immigration. Both O’Neill and Santos were immigrants, but they support the current policies being implemented.

O’Neill said her family came to the U.S. legally from Honduras and she became a citizen at 9 years old.

“It’s important that they go through the process,” she said.

She’d like to see the number of immigration judges tripled to process immigration cases quickly.

“A lot of the people seeking asylum are not legitimate parents with the children,” she said, adding that gang members are “kidnapping the children and using them as human shields to get across the border into the country.”

---

The candidates were asked what ideas they have to lower health insurance premiums.

O’Neill said there needs to be more competition and more insurance pools.

Fake outrage by Democrats won’t solve Immigration Crisis

June 19, 2018

SOUTHBURY, CT — Ruby Corby O’Neill, Republican candidate for Congress in Connecticut’s Fifth Congressional District, issued the following statement:

“It breaks my heart to see children separated from their families. I am horrified by the images I am seeing in the news and I am angry at Members of Congress who express outrage after failing to do anything to fix our broken immigration system.

What is obvious is that Democrats are using these children as political pawns to try and win elections. It’s wrong and it’s cruel. There is not a single person in America who wants to see these children separated from their families. President Trump is enforcing existing law and if Democrats really cared about the children they would stop staging publicity stunts and start working with Republicans to fix the problem.

It’s time for Congress to get to work and pass legislation to solve this problem. And while we’re at it, let’s build the wall, end chain migration and visa lotteries.

Ruby Corby O’Neill Says Four Debates Ahead of GOP Primary Will Move District Forward

June 21, 2018

SOUTHBURY, CT — Today, Ruby Corby O’Neill, Republican candidate for Congress in Connecticut’s Fifth Congressional District, called for four debates to be held before the August 14, 2018 Republican Primary.

“Republican voters have an important choice to make in August,” Corby O’Neill said. "They can either choose the failed politics of the past or move the fifth district forward in a new direction. Two debates – as some have suggested - is simply not enough for Republican voters to get to know the candidates or ask them where they stand on the big issues facing our nation. For that reason, I am proposing that we have four debates across the district.”

“Candidates matter. Elections matter. When GOP primary voters see us on the same stage, they will see that I am the only candidate who can beat the Democrats in November,” Corby O’Neill concluded.
